Afterschool and Holiday Club

We now have a specific room dedicated to Afterschool and Holiday Club.  We have purchased new equipment such as an xbox, pool table, and age appropriate games and asked the children to help us redesign the space to meet their needs.

Messy Play Room

Due to purchasing new equipment we redeveloped the messy play room to reflect the new facilitates and to ensure self selection for the children.

Developing the Toilet Area

Due to the increasing number of children attending the afterschool and holiday club we have found the need to have older children's spare clothes on site so they may change if necessary.  A reorganisation of the space was require to accommodate this and to ensure the best use of the space.

New Layout with additional resources.

Improving the Learning Environment

Setting Improvement Plan

We at Little Cubs want to provide the best care possible for the children in the setting. Reflective practice is an excellent way to maintain and continually improve the quality of our practice.

Reflective practice is the process of thinking about and analysing your practice, with the aim of challenging, changing, modifying, developing and improving it. It will be a continuous cycle of reflection and improvement.

To be a reflective practitioner we need to be able to take a balanced view of our practice, recognise and celebrate our strengths and what works well but acknowledge what could be improved.

Evaluating our practice will help us to identify our professional development needs and, over time, will support us to become more confident in our practice.

A reflective practitioner:

 Celebrates their strengths and skills and acknowledges areas that need developing

 Takes professional responsibility for constantly improving the quality of their own practice

 Thinks about the way they work and why they choose certain ways of working

 Considers the impact of their practice on the children and families in their care

 Considers working in different ways and introduces new ways of working

 Plans how to maintain and develop their practice in future

The Development of Baby's Days

Setting development: term 4, 5and 6. Little Cubs Hythe and Palmarsh: Baby’s Days: after combining two settings we have become a larger establishment. To support this management have decided to collaborate all paperwork for both settings. We are now using babies days which is the most established and most advanced childcare software package.

Over terms 4,5 and 6 we have been inputting personal information, starting points and becoming familiar with the software. On the 23/5/18 we had a staff training session with all practitioners from both settings to discuss progress, concerns and to share advice and ideas. This will remove 99% paperwork and allows us to combine and run the businesses online with parental interaction every step of the way.

Next Setting Improvement Plan

To extend the design of the room further we would like to add a window or glass door from the office through to the boat room for the following reasons:

  • Increased safeguarding - being viewed from the office will ensure a safer environment
  • Increased light - light from the lobby area would lighten up the Boat Room
  • Increased Ventilation - allowing a breeze to flow through the setting

Setting development: Palmarsh, term 4 ,5 and 6 2018. New Build.: I bought Little Cubs Nursery Palmarsh preschool in May 2017. This was with a vision of maximising space and utilising the unique boat shaped Building from a toilet area into a themed boat classroom. The toilets were moved into our storage space which has created two new classroom areas. This promotes free flow play and has also freed up a large classroom space for our after-school / training room. We have now completed all building works and have invested in new resources and equipment. With our new baby unit coming we can now offer childcare for children aged 0 to 12. The feedback from parents has been really positive and the children now have more space to play and explore.

Boat Room

The children we fully involved in designing the learning environment of the new classroom.  They have been calling it the Boat Room.

It is important to consult children concerning their play

experiences, environments, and the materials and resources to

support these.  After its their room and children learn best when their views have been respected and listened too.

We are sourcing materials to make the room look more nautical and themed towards a boat.

New Classroom is finished!

The way the physical environment is designed and configured

influences how children feel, act, and behave. The physical environment allows growth and

development through activities and materials in defined play areas. Room arrangement for play

activity plays an important role in social and language interactions.

Work In Progress

The new classroom is taking shape and are beginning to envisage how its going to look.  The children have been in and had a look and we are asking them for ideas on what they would like the environment to look like.

New Classroom

We identified that the old toilet area was such a fantastic space that would make a brilliant learning environment for the children.
