Free Early Education (FEE) Funding

Free Early Education (FEE) funding for nursery/pre-school children can be used to cover sessions between: 

  • 8 am to 12 pm
  • 1 pm to 4 pm


We charge for the following hours for everyone inclusively (nursery/pre-school):


  • £5 for the lunch hour between 12 pm -1 pm
  • £5 per hour between 4 pm – 6 pm
  • £5 per hour for wrap around care/additional hours over the FEE hours.

Little Cubs are flexible with our hours and will do our best to suit your individual needs and we reserves the right to charge for late picks ups at a rate of £10 every 15 minutes or part thereof, whether or not the child is in receipt of Free Early Education for 2, 3 & 4 yr olds.

15 Hours Free Childcare For 3 & 4 Year Olds

For all families in England

For 3 and 4-year-old children

15 hours of free childcare or early education a week

You're entitled to 570 hours of free childcare a year.

From 1 January, 1 April or 1 September following your child's 3rd birthday.


30 Hours Free Childcare for 3 & 4 Year Olds

If you are eligible, 30 hours is available for 38 weeks of the year (just like the existing 15 hours scheme).

You, and any partner, must each expect to earn (on average) the equivalent of working 16 hours a week at your national minimum wage (£120 at the National Living Wage, less if you are on the National Minimum Wage)

If you, or your partner, are on maternity, paternity or adoption leave, or you're unable to work because you are disabled or have caring responsibilities, you could still be eligible.

You can't get 30 hours free childcare if you, or your partner, expect to earn £100,000 each.

Your child can start in their childcare place the term after they turn 3 years old and have received a valid 30 hours code, whichever is later. Term start dates are 1st September, 1st January and 1st April.

You may get asked for further information as part of your application, so apply well ahead of the start date for each term.

To keep your 30 hours free childcare place you need to check your details are up to date every 3 months.

Free For 2 (FF2) Scheme

Free early education places for 2 year olds is known in Kent as the Free for 2 or 'FF2' scheme.

We have a duty to provide eligible 2 year olds up to 570 hours of free early education a year over 38 weeks of the year.

A child is eligible if:

they come within the criteria used to determine eligibility for Free School Meals

their families receive Working Tax Credits and have an annual gross income of no more than £15400 per year

they have a current statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and care plan

they are entitled to Disability Living Allowance

they are looked after by a local authority

they are no longer looked after by the local authority as a result of an adoption order, a special guardianship order or a child arrangements order which specifies with whom the child lives.

Eligible children can start claiming after they turn two, depending on when their birthday is.

When they can claim from:

1 January to 31 March the beginning of term on or after 1 April

1 April to 31 August the beginning of term on or after 1 September

1 September to 31 December the beginning of term on or after 1 January
